1. Who we are

Stock Trader NZ is an online marketplace where people in New Zealand advertise, discover and buy animals such as dogs, horses and livestock.

In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Stock Trader NZ, and “you” means anyone who uses the app or website.

We handle personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

2. Information we collect

We only collect the information we need to run the marketplace:

  • Account information — your name, email address and password (stored securely by our authentication provider), and profile details you choose to add.
  • Listing information — the animal's details, photos, videos, price, region and any description you publish.
  • Contact details — the name, email address and phone number you choose to show to members on a listing.
  • Saved items — the listings you save while browsing.
  • Membership and payment information — your subscription plan, status and renewal date. Card details are handled directly by our payment provider and are never stored by us.
  • Communications — messages you send to us, including support requests and reports about a listing.
  • Technical information — basic device and browser details, and the pages you visit, so the app works on your device and stays secure.

3. How we collect information

  • Directly from you when you create an account, publish a listing, subscribe, save an animal, or contact us.
  • Automatically when you use the app, through standard technical and security logs.
  • From our payment provider when a subscription is created, renewed, cancelled or a payment fails.

4. How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

  • Create and manage your account and verify your email address.
  • Publish and display your listings to other users.
  • Show your contact details to members who are entitled to contact a seller.
  • Keep your saved animals on your account.
  • Process and manage your membership subscription.
  • Send you essential service emails such as verification codes, password resets and subscription notices.
  • Respond to your questions, reports and complaints.
  • Keep the marketplace safe: detect fraud, remove unlawful or misleading listings, and enforce our Seller Terms.
  • Meet our legal obligations and resolve disputes.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising on behalf of other businesses.

5. What other users can see

Listings are public. Anything you publish in a listing — the animal's details, photos, videos, price, region, and the seller contact details you enter — can be seen by anyone using the app, and may be indexed by search engines.

Your account email address and password are never shown to other users. Only the contact details you actively add to a listing are shared with members.

Please do not include personal information in a listing that you are not comfortable making public.

6. Payments and subscriptions

Membership payments are processed by Stripe, a third-party payment provider. When you subscribe, Stripe receives the information needed to process the payment, including your name, email address and payment details.

We receive only limited information from Stripe, such as your subscription status, plan, renewal date and a customer identifier. We never receive or store your full card number.

Stripe's own privacy policy applies to the information it collects and handles.

7. Who we share information with

We share personal information only where it is needed to run the service, or where the law requires it:

  • Service providers who host the app, store data, send email and process payments on our behalf.
  • Other users, to the extent described in section 5.
  • Regulators, enforcement agencies, courts, or OSPRI and similar bodies where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to investigate serious harm, fraud or animal welfare concerns.
  • A buyer or seller, where this is necessary to resolve a dispute you are part of.
  • A successor organisation if the marketplace is ever sold or transferred, on the same terms as this policy.

Our service providers are only permitted to use your information for the purpose we engaged them for.

8. Overseas storage and disclosure

Some of our service providers store or process data outside New Zealand, including in Australia, the United States and the European Union.

Where information is sent overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected by safeguards comparable to the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

9. Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand how the app is used so we can improve it.

You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may stop you from signing in or saving animals.

10. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purposes in this policy, or as long as the law requires.

Listing and account information is generally kept while your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your profile, listings, saved animals and contact details, except where we must keep records for tax, accounting, dispute or legal purposes.

Some records, such as payment and subscription records, may be retained for up to seven years to meet accounting obligations.

11. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, including encrypted connections, access controls and reputable hosting providers.

No online service can be completely secure. Please choose a strong, unique password and keep it private.

If a privacy breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected people and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as required by the Privacy Act 2020.

12. Your rights

Under the Privacy Act 2020 you have the right to:

  • Ask whether we hold personal information about you and request access to it.
  • Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date.
  • Ask us to delete your account and the information associated with it.
  • Ask questions about how we handle your information, or complain about our handling of it.

You can update most information directly in your account settings. For any other request, contact us using the details in section 16. We will respond within 20 working days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

13. Children

The marketplace is intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

14. Email communications

We send essential service emails — such as verification codes, password resets, subscription receipts and important account notices — to keep your account working and secure.

You can unsubscribe from optional emails using the unsubscribe link in the footer of those emails. You cannot unsubscribe from essential service emails while you hold an account.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in the law, our services or how we handle information.
